Five SMU commits that Morris could try to flip to Arkansas

Arkansas has a lot of room in its class for Morris to fill as new head coach

Newly hired Arkansas head coach Chad Morris had a good thing going at SMU on the recruiting trail after two successful seasons as head coach in Dallas. Up until very recently, Morris was conducting in-home visits with recruits on behalf of the Mustangs, but now has a lot of slots to fill in the Razorbacks' 2018 class. Here are five players currently committed to SMU that shouldn’t be surprised to pick up a new SEC offer in the near future.

The logical place to start would be with one of Morris’ most recent in-home visits. Allison has all the build to become an SEC linebacker and would make a nice pair with current Arkansas commit Bumper Pool. The only other school that has offered Allison since the spring has been a recent offer from Syracuse, but a chance to move to an SEC program that is still relatively close to home would likely be a more attractive option. Allison is a big-hitter and would likely be popular with the Razorbacks faithful.

Woods is one of the state’s best-kept secrets at wide receiver. At Magnolia this season, Woods had more than 1,000 yards receiving and scored 15 touchdowns. Morris has certainly seen some of his featured wide receivers blossom into college football’s best, and Woods is one of those kinds of talents. He’s over 6 feet tall, but has a compact build and is a sudden and explosive route-runner. Meanwhile, Arkansas does not currently have a wide receiver committed in 2018.

Another player that Morris and his staff did a good job zeroing-in on is Morris, out of Cypress Woods High just outside of Houston. Jones is a huge defensive end who is athletic enough to play anywhere on the defensive line. Arkansas currently has two defensive ends committed in 2018, but Jones is bigger than both of them and could line up inside at tackle.

Robinson fits the mold of a throwback Arkansas lineman if there ever was one. From a small school southwest of Houston, Robinson lines up as one of the broadest, most muscular interior lineman that can be found - with a neckroll on his pads to boot. Arkansas already has three offensive linemen committed in this class - including junior college transfer Noah Banks, but especially in the event that any of them choose to dissolve their commitments now that the coaching change is complete, Robinson would be a nice addition.

As was mentioned earlier, Arkansas needs to do some catching up on the recruiting trail, and that comes down to just filling out the class with capable players. Jones’ more provocative talents come on the offensive side of the ball, but it seemed as though he was headed for the secondary once he got to SMU. Jones may be a bit of a stretch to expect an offer from Arkansas relative to the others on this list, but Morris liked him enough to offer once, and the Razorbacks need some skill players on either side of the ball in this class.
