Fast-rising DB Davis knows his five officials
Three-star Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington defensive back DaVante Davis isn't big on interviews, he prefers to let his play do the talking. And after a spring that saw him add offers from some of Southeast's best programs, he knows where he wants to take official visits this coming fall.
"I'm planning on taking my officials to Florida State, Alabama, South Carolina, Ohio State and Florida," Davis said Sunday. "I'll also visit Miami but I don't have to use an official to go there because it's right here in the area."
Davis, who committed to Syracuse earlier this year before reopening his recruitment, was recently on campus in Gainesville to take part in the Gators' 7-on-7 tournament.
"We spent time on campus, walked around and got to see everything," he said. "It was nice. They're still recruiting me hard."
While Davis has seen his offer list grow quite a bit in the last few months, he said three schools in particular continue to make a consistent effort when it comes to his recruitment.
"South Carolina, Miami and Ohio State are the ones I'm talking to the most," Davis said.
The Gamecocks are trying to work into Davis' mix for an official this fall, and according to Davis they're making up ground in a hurry.
"I'm talking to Coach Grady Brown," Davis said. "He's just been telling me that they like me and he thinks I can come there and they can really use me. I'm hoping to get up there this summer for a visit."
Davis is teammates with 2016 Miami commit Mark Walton, and said his friend and teammate is working hard to get him to Coral Gables as well. Davis said he feels the love not only from Walton, but from the staff whenever he's on campus.
"I was just there earlier this week for a visit and it was pretty good," Davis said. "They show me a lot of love and really treat me like family when I'm there."
