National recruiting director Mike Farrell and national recruiting analyst Adam Gorney tackle three topics daily and determine whether they believe the statements or not.
FACT OR FICTION: Korey Foreman will end up in SEC
CLASS OF 2021 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Position | Team | State
CLASS OF 2022: Top 100
1. Oklahoma can flip Texas commitment Billy Bowman.
Farrell’s take: FICTION. The Sooners just offered the elite athlete from Texas who has been committed to the Longhorns, but I don’t see anything changing here. Billy Bowman has been one of the more committed players in this class and has been recruiting other prospects for awhile. This late offer from Oklahoma is interesting but not a big threat to Texas.
Gorney’s take: FICTION. Oklahoma has done well in Texas landing elite players over the years, but it’s a little bit of a head-scratcher as to why the Sooners waited this long to offer someone as talented as Bowman, who’s been committed to the Longhorns since last July. It is interesting that Bowman has been buddying up a little bit with Oklahoma commit Mario Williams and Oklahoma could make a compelling case for Bowman to flip, but right now I’d say it’s still a long shot.
2. James Williams’ commitment to Miami will sway Corey Collier.
Farrell’s take: FICTION. Corey Collier has a final three of Miami, Florida and LSU and this could certainly change things a bit. However, the last I heard was that Collier was a lean to the Gators with LSU running a close second. Collier did RT the James Williams announcement and some Miami stuff, so there is clear interest and playing with Williams has to be tempting, but I’m sticking with Florida on this one.
Gorney’s take: FACT. I’m not saying Miami is going to land Collier, but the Hurricanes pulled a huge surprise in getting Williams’ commitment over Georgia and my bet is that Collier is at least a little more intrigued by Miami. He could team up with Williams, he could literally play down the road and with the coronavirus pandemic affecting recruiting in all kinds of ways, I’m not counting Miami out. Florida is probably the frontrunner for Collier right now, but teaming up with Williams and staying even closer to home could be really compelling.
3. Alabama can go back into Georgia and steal Amarius Mims.
Farrell’s take: FICTION. Alabama did a great job landing Terrence Ferguson from Peach County and the Crimson Tide are the biggest threat to Georgia for Mims, but I’m sticking with the Bulldogs here. UGA has had a large lead for Mims for quite some time and the chance to play early with a guy like Broderick Jones is attractive to him. And his relationship with Matt Luke is unrivaled. Give me Georgia here.
Gorney’s take: FACT. When it comes to Alabama, I’m not counting the Crimson Tide out for anybody, especially with five-star offensive linemen. There are two ways to think about this: Mims could be really intrigued by this phenomenal Alabama offensive line class that’s filled with talent - and want to join it. Or he can look at Georgia’s offensive line class, see an opportunity for immediate playing time and be pulled in that direction.
Alabama and Georgia are both recruiting as well as any teams in the country. Is it possible Alabama can get back into the state of Georgia for Mims? Sure. Will it happen? My bet is that the five-star commits to the Bulldogs.
