National recruiting director Mike Farrell and national recruiting analyst Adam Gorney tackle three topics daily and determine whether they believe the statements or not.

1. DB Latrell McCutchin will end up with Oklahoma.

Farrell’s take: FACT. This is a hunch, but McCutchin de-committed from Alabama around the same time he was having a great visit to OU and I think he wants to stay closer to home. A team to watch, however? Florida State. His mentor and coach is former 'Noles star Antonio Cromartie. But right now I like the Sooners, although McCutchin says he’s wide open.

Gorney’s take: FICTION. McCutchin de-committing from Alabama right after his Oklahoma visit could be a sign, but my sense is that the trip to Norman opened his eyes up way more about other opportunities and not just necessarily with the Sooners. LSU is going to make a run at him, so are Florida and Ohio State and now the in-state schools have to be involved more as well. If he wants to stay closer to home, how about in town, since the Longhorns play right down the road? Lincoln Riley is pushing hard and got him to de-commit, but it might be a while until McCutchin picks another school.

2. RB Camar Wheaton will end up outside the state of Texas.

Farrell’s take: FACT. Texas and Texas A&M are in the hunt, but the five-star running back will end up at Oklahoma or in the SEC at Alabama, LSU or someplace else. Texas and Texas A&M have to have big seasons to keep him in state.

Gorney’s take: FACT. I have to answer guardedly, because Wheaton is nearly impossible to read and has not really opened up about which schools he favors at this point. If he ended up at an in-state school, I would not be shocked in the least. But if history is an indication, Wheaton could definitely go to Oklahoma, which has done a great job developing running backs over the years. Alabama is going to push, LSU is going to be a player and others could get involved, too. It’s probably going to be a while until we have a good feel on this one.

3. Spencer Rattler will be a Heisman finalist next season.

Farrell’s take: FICTION. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray won it, Jalen Hurts was in the mix and Rattler is a special talent. However, he’s a year away, to me, as he gets his feet wet this season. He will put up big numbers in the OU offense, but with Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and others out there, his time will come in 2021.

Gorney’s take: FACT. Rattler has this advantage over all three of those other Oklahoma quarterbacks: They had to unlearn the offense from a previous school and then learn the Sooners' system. And still they put up those insane numbers and won all those awards.

All Rattler knows is the Sooners’ offense, he’s going to be surrounded by skill players looking to make their mark in the program and he’s going to have a huge season. The non-conference schedule is favorable and there are some tests on the road, but if five players go to New York, then Rattler should be one of them.
