The Latest: When Chase Rogers visited Texas unofficially earlier this fall, he was still committed to Tennessee and was gauging to see just how legitimate the Longhorns interest was. It didn't take long for Rogers to realize that he may have rushed his commitment to the Vols and he backed off his commitment shortly after the trip to Austin. But after Charlie Strong and his staff were let go, things went back into flux for Rogers. Now it appears as if the new staff in Austin has taken a shine to Rogers as well. Rivals.com caught up with him to talk Longhorns, as well as the potential of Ole Miss reentering his recruitment.
In His Words: "I’ve been talking to Texas quite a bit. After the coaching change about two days later, Coach Meekins, the new tight ends coach at Texas texted me and told me to give him a call and he was telling me about how they think I’m they’re guy and I can come in a play early. They’re looking for a guy to split out not just be a traditional tight end and I think I fit that role well. The previous staff was going to offer me right before they left but they didn't want to not knowing if they were going to be there or not."
On Ole Miss: "I've been talking to Coach Harris one or twice a week and he basically told me that after I committed they decided they weren’t going to take a tight end this year because I was the guy they wanted and then when I de-committed it kind of changed things and if they do decide to take a tight end they want me to be that guy so that’s still an option for me there."
Rivals Reaction: Rogers has set his official visit for Jan. 13 and it seems like if the Longhorns want him, he's theirs for the taking. It remains to be scene if that offer will come, or if a spot will open up at Ole Miss, but a talented player like Rogers will have an FBS home come Signing Day.
