Position: Inside linebacker
Size and speed: Sanders is 6-foot-4, 228 pounds and has been clocked at 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Sanders has a 33-inch vertical leap and a 380-pound bench press. He can also squat 350 pounds 18 times. Sanders has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Honors: Sanders did not play much as a junior when he was injured in early September.
Statistics: Sanders didn’t play much as a junior because of an injury.
Favorite Schools: Sanders has an early offer from LSU and lists the Tigers as his No. 1 team over Nebraska, Florida, Colorado, Ohio State and Tennessee.
Skinny: Even though he didn’t play hardly at all as a junior, there is no question that West Monroe, La., inside linebacker Luke Sanders is one of the Bayou State’s top prospects. And he already has an early offer from an SEC program to prove that.
Despite the injury, Sanders has already earned a scholarship offer from LSU. The Tigers are his No. 1 team over heavy interest from Nebraska, Florida, Colorado, Ohio State and Tennessee. So what type of player is Sanders? Many people have been asking that question since they didn’t get to see him play last season when West Monroe made another run to the state championship game.
“He’s a warrior,” West Monroe coach Don Shows said about Sanders. “He was injured all of last year, but he didn’t let that stop him from working hard in the weight room to get better and better. He’s going to be one of our most special players next season.”
No doubt.
Sanders said he’s looking at a few things when it comes time to make the final decision.
“The main things will be the coaching staff and the location,” he said. “I’d like to be at a place where my family can see me.”
Most think that will be LSU, but with other teams chasing just as hard, it should be a fun recruiting battle to watch.
