Caleb Coley signs with Michigan State

Leave it to a former defensive back in head coach Mel Tucker to recognize the skills in an up and comer in Caleb Coley. Maybe one of the more undervalued three-star corners in the nation, Michigan State landed a tough as nails cornerback in the 2022 Georgia prospect.

WHAT THE SPARTANS ARE GETTING

If you watch game film on Coley, one might see him more as a strong safety than a corner. Coley is that unique talent who hits like a middle linebacker and blankets receivers like a corner. Switching jerseys from game to game, full season stats were not compiled for the interested. Stats aside, Coley is a gamer.

WHAT MAKES CALEB COLEY DIFFERENT

At the beginning of 2021, college programs across the country started seeing all that Coley can do on the field. The Houston County standout showed he can play against the best of the best taking on 6A Georgia receivers in the passing game and filling the alley like a safety against running back. Not the biggest of guys, Coley is a hard hitter with speed capable of doing it all.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR MICHIGAN STATE

The list of offerees includes Mississippi State, Miami, UCF, Ole Miss, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee among others. In June, Coley took official visits to Wisconsin, Michigan State, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt committing to the Commodores on July 5. On Nov. 1, Coley got back in the recruiting game seeing all the great things coming in East Lansing. The recruiting win shows how quickly recruits have recognized what coach Tucker and Co. are building.
