The college fantasy football playoffs are almost here and a late-season spark might be needed to make the cut. Here are five running backs who are owned in less than 40 percent of leagues that could provide a late boost to your fantasy squad:

1. Javian Hawkins, Louisville

Hawkins has become the favorite running option in a crowded Louisville backfield and he should continue to see the ball and have his opportunities. Owned in just 27 percent of leagues, Hawkins is among the top-25 running backs in fantasy points with 978 yards and six scores as he averages 5.4 yards per carry.

2. SaRodorick Thompson, Texas Tech

Thompson has become the premium option in Texas Tech’s backfield and even though he hasn’t put up huge rushing yards with just 576 through nine games, he has scored 10 rushing touchdowns to boost his fantasy value. Owned in just 22 percent of leagues, Thompson should get the ball early and often this weekend against TCU.

3. Cameron Scarlett, Stanford

Stanford is only averaging around 21 points per game and that’s been a problem all season, but Scarlett is posting decent numbers and could be worth a shot against Washington State this weekend. Against a potent Washington State offense, Stanford might want to control the clock and go slowly and that means Scarlett, who’s owned in just 31 percent of leagues, could get the ball a lot.

4. Christopher Brown, Jr., Cal

One spot behind Scarlett in fantasy points for running backs is Brown, who has rushed for 599 yards and five touchdowns this season which are blockbuster numbers for just a downright bad offense. Cal averages 19.1 points per game but the Golden Bears’ defense is so dominant and so talented that they give up just 20.6 points per outing. USC comes to town on senior day so the setting should be big and I wouldn’t be surprised if Cal wants to pound the ball straight forward with Brown all day.

5. Jordan Mason, Georgia Tech

Think 19 points is bad for Cal? Well, Georgia Tech only averages 18.3 points per outing but Mason is getting his opportunities and he’s one of the lone bright spots in the Yellow Jackets’ offense. Owned in just seven percent of leagues, Mason has rushed 129 times for 716 yards and seven touchdowns. Virginia Tech’s defense is tough against the run, but if you need a spark, maybe Mason is your guy.
