A big piece of Clemson’s 2023 recruiting class returned on Tuesday when Zechariah Owens recommitted to the Tigers. The four-star talent out of Georgia’s Eagle’s Landing Christian reopened his recruiting for five days before making his announcement that he was heading back to play for the Tigers.

When Owens committed to Clemson in July, he shared with Rivals his decision-making process.

“It was really different at Clemson,” Owens said. “It was really between Clemson and Penn State but when I went back to Clemson on an unofficial visit, I wanted to commit the first time, but I waited. I waited and prayed on it, and I have good feelings about Penn State, too, but Clemson was the right pick.”

This time around, Florida State was a factor taking an unofficial to Tallahassee on Oct. 15. In the end, the words Owens shared about Clemson previously won out.

“When I see how close of a family they are and I see how they take care of their players with life after football, I don’t see any other school doing that,” Owens stated.”

PLAYER EVALUATION

There are few players in any recruiting class like Owens. Owens can dominate defenders with his size, but he’s more than a one-man gang on the line. The four-star plays under control with very good pad level and hand placement. He is athletic enough to pull and get to the next level opening holes downfield for running backs and receivers. Clemson is getting an All-ACC caliber player in Owens.

CLEMSON’S 2023 CLASS

Winning Owens back has moved Clemson’s class up to No. 8 nationally, tops in the ACC, in Rivals’ 2023 team recruiting rankings. The class is loaded with 17 four-star players taking players from seven different states with 10 coming from the Peach State.
