TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s weekend-long prospect camp kicked on Friday with two sessions of workouts and attracted talented prospects from multiple states. Rivals.com Florida recruiting analyst Rob Cassidy was in attendance for the event and shares his five major takeaways from the first day of action below.
PARISH GRABS FSU’S ATTENTION
Alabama-based quarterback Peter Parish garnered special attention from the Florida State coaching staff, as he was asked to work out privately following the camp’s morning session. Parish, who boasts a solid frame, holds offers from such schools as Florida, Pitt, Mississippi State and Missouri. The quarterback had a mostly impressive outing at Friday’s camp, showcasing solid arm strength and accuracy.
Mississippi State is viewed as the leader in Parish’s recruitment for now, but offers continue to arrive in bunches, so things may change down the road. The 6-foot-1 quarterback has plenty of upside, as he functions as a true dual threat. It’s unclear how seriously Florida State is considering adding a second quarterback to its 2019 class, but there is certainly some level of mutual interest between the program and Parish.
SOUTHERN MISS GETS IN ON THE ACT
Florida State opened its 2018 camp to the Southern Miss coaching staff, which had at least two coaches present on the event’s first day. The two schools, which played each other in the Independence Bowl last season, recruit different levels of prospect so an agreement was struck this offseason.
“The deal was we let them stomp is in the bowl game and they let us come out here,” one Southern Miss coaches joked during the event.
The two staffs shared the field. And while FSU coaches handled the coaching and ran the event, the Southern Miss representatives were allowed to roam freely and interact with campers.
A YOUNG STAR EMERGES
The first session of the camp served as a coming-out party for class of 2023 wide receiver Brandon Inniss. Inniss is yet to play a high school game, but was so impressive in the camp’s early stages that Florida State coaches moved him out of the underclassmen cluster and into the high school group, where he competed against 2019 and 2020 prospects.
Once there, the young wideout continued to shine, drawing praise from coaches and causing a group of Miami central High School prospects to remark about his youth in awe. Inniss intends to attend Ft. Lauderdale’s University school and will likely play varsity as an eighth-grader during the upcoming season. Inniss has solid size for a young prospect and will add wright to his 6-foot frame. There’s no doubt that major offers will arrive in short order, as Inniss accumulates high school game film. FSU coaches, including head coach Willie Taggart, talked with Inniss throughout the event, making it clear that the young prospect is very much on the Seminoles’ radar.
A PAIR OF 2019 RECEIVERS HOLD COURT
Joining Inniss on the list of wide receivers that stood out on Friday were three-star prospects Trevor Solomon-Wilson and Raykwon Anderson. Solomon Wilson, who hails from Tallahassee, was probably the fastest player at the event and has speed to spare. He created loads of separation on every one-on-one rep. And while he dropped a pass or two, his day was beyond impressive. Solomon-Wilson also plays defensive back and intends to make a verbal commitment prior to his senior season. He currently holds offers from Oregon, South Florida and Cincinnati. He’s hoping to earn a Florida State offer over the weekend
Anderson, on the other hand, holds offers from schools such as Florida, Purdue and North Carolina. And while he’s a bit undersized, he got results on Friday. The 5-foot-9 receiver accelerates in a hurry and was nearly impossible to cover in one-on-one work.
AMARI DANIELS ATTRACTING ATTENTION
Class of 2021 running back Amari Daniels played last season at Miami Central High school will play next season at Miami Jackson high school and it’s clear that he’ll have an impact in his new setting. Daniels shined at Florida State’s camp on Friday and attracted the attention of the Seminoles’ coaches.
Daniels currently lists offers from Georgia, Miami, Nebraska and others, but it’s clear that his offer lists will grow quickly in the year ahead. Daniel was one of the event’s marquee players and looked the part all afternoon, showcasing the acceleration that makes him special. Daniel says he hopes to pick up an offer from Alabama in the year ahead but will wait until his senior season to announce a commitment.
“The way coaches move around these days, I can’t be committed to a school anytime soon,” Daniel said on Friday. “You never know these days.”
