Willie Canty’s Signing Day choice of Nebraska is another cog in the Florida-to-Lincoln pipeline that was erected the moment Cornhuskers head coach Scot Frost left UCF for UNL. The massive offensive lineman announced his decision on Signing Day and gave Nebraska the massive tackle its class needed. Below, Rivals.com has a look at how Canty’s choice helps the Huskers and may hurt the Cardinals.

THE SITUATION

Louisville joined Nebraska on Canty’s list of finalist, but there was little doubt that the offensive lineman would land in Lincoln. Wednesday’s announcement was a bit of a formality, but Nebraska fans certainly don’t mind the lack of drama.

WHY IT'S BIG FOR NEBRAKSA

The Husker’s class isn’t exactly long on offensive linemen, and Scott Frost needed some help at tackle in this class. Enter Canty, whose value is all about fit. He fills a positional need for the Huskers but his 6-foot-6 frame can carry even more that the 290 pounds he currently weighs. Canty can grow into the prototypical Big 10 lineman. It will be up to Frost and Nebraska to mold him into a polished lineman, but the physical tools he needs are there in spades. This is a low-risk, high-reward take for the Huskers, who continue to build momentum in Florida.

HOW IT HURTS THE SCHOOLS THAT MISSED:

The narrative here is bigger than Canty. His commitment, on its own, doesn’t do much to sting Louisville. The concern lies in the bigger picture. With Frost now at Nebraska, Louisville will be seeing the Cornhuskers on the recruiting trail more often, especially in Florida. The Cardinals have done well targeting second and third-tier stars from the Sunshine State in recent years, but those players will now be targeted by Frost, who has quite a bit of pull in his old stomping grounds. There are many recruiting battles to come between these two programs, as the Huskers could easily become a massive thorn in Bobby Petrino’s side going forward.
