Cameron Williams' star continues to rise

Northwest Indiana is not a talent-dense area of the state, but it has produced some talented players in the past. The class of 2019 features another talented product from the area in Andrean four-star linebacker Cameron Williams.

THE LATEST

Williams generated buzz this off-season at several events, including the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas in St. Louis where he was named one of the top underclassmen. Offers from Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Iowa State, North Carolina, Northern Illinois and Syracuse have already come through. Williams is generating additional interest from schools within the region, as well as those like Arkansas, Penn State and UCLA from points further afield. The four-star is currently considering college game visits, with Indiana, Michigan State and Purdue among those most likely to be visited in the near future. His short-term focus, though, is on his season and his schoolwork.

IN HIS WORDS

“I am looking forward to this season to show the work that I have put in and show that I am truly one of those elite guys. Going into the season I’d like to focus on my grades more and keep them at a nice GPA and at the same time bettering myself in football and on the field. I want to be a physical trainer. I want to learn about the body, how to keep people healthy and stretch them out right.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Williams has generated strong attention and a solid number of offers considering northwestern Indiana is not on every college coaches’ list of regular stopovers. Williams, though, used the off-season to get his name out there. He was particularly impressive during the spring camp season, a feat that was difficult because he was also involved in track where he was ran the fastest 110 meter hurdle time for a sophomore in the state and had a personal best of 14.90 seconds. As for recruiting, Williams is likely to take his time and do his due diligence. The in-state schools will get the first opportunity to impress, but expectations are he will cast a wide net and look at schools from coast to coast before deciding.
