Arkansas added one of the final key pieces to its 2018 recruiting class with the addition of three-star Louisiana defensive back Joseph Foucha on Wednesday. The Razorbacks won a battle over Ole Miss to land Foucha, who was identified as a prime target after Chad Morris and his staff took over in Fayetteville in December. Foucha quickly becomes one of the school's highest-ranked members of the 2018 class.
WHY IT'S BIG FOR ARKANSAS
Foucha was in a unique position having been considered by LSU all the way up until mid-January, but Arkansas made it clear to him that he was in no way a backup plan. By making him a priority they not only made an impression, but ultimately ended up landing his signature. Recruiting the state of Louisiana is going to be key for the Arkansas staff going forward so landing Foucha, who should have a chance to make an impact on the field, is also big from a perception standpoint.
WHY IT HURTS FOR OLE MISS AND OTHERS
The Rebels have done a nice job of turning things around since learning their fate from the NCAA but were hoping to land Foucha to help cap off a solid close to 2018. Ultimately they lose him and to a division foe, a less than ideal conclusion. But going toe-for-toe with the Hawgs will likely be a regular occurrence in the years to come and Ole Miss will end up winning its share of battles as well. LSU would have liked to take Foucha but didn't quite have the room, while Auburn was also in the mix for some time as well. It will be interesting to see if Foucha can make the other SEC teams that passed on him pay down the road.
