Breaking down Ja'Marr Chase's decision to sign with LSU

Rivals100 wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase became the final piece of LSU's 2018 recruiting class when he announced his intentions to with with the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. The move was anticipated for the better part of a month, but got dicer over the last week after Chase took a late official visit to Auburn. Nevertheless, the playmaking wide receiver elected to stay close to home and made his third and final commitment of the 2018 cycle to LSU.

WHY IT'S BIG FOR LSU

Chase is the fourth in-state wide receiver to sign with the Tigers in the 2018 class, joining five-star Terrace Marshall, Jr., four-star Kenan Jones and three-star Jaray Jenkins. The quartet is an impressive haul for the Tigers but Chase is truly the icing on the cake. Some hold him in the same regard as Marshall in terms of his upside and he immediately provides something the team is currently lacking. After both sides looked at other options throughout the process, they came together when it mattered most and Chase and LSU should be a good fit.

WHY IT HURTS FOR AUBURN AND OTHERS

Getting Chase on campus the weekend before Signing Day gave Auburn some hope, but ultimately the Tigers were too late in the game to win him over and steal him away from LSU. Chase officially signing with LSU may actually feel worse for TCU, which appeared to be set to land Chase over the summer before NFL Network botched his planned televised announcement. Rather than commit to the Frogs, Chase reevaluated his options before ultimately committing to Florida. TCU got back in the mix after he de-committed, but couldn't manage to reel him in. Horned Frogs fans have to wonder what would have happened had things gone according to plan with his summer announcement.
