was a little bit of a surprise at the top with five-star Marvin Wilson from
Houston (Texas) Episcopal taking the No. 1 spot.
Five-star quarterback Hunter Johnson from Brownsburg, Ind., and five-star
cornerback Lamont Wade out of Clairton, Pa., round out the top five.
With the release of the Rivals250, there will be additional debate as these prospects approach their junior seasons.
With so much time until National Signing Day for this recruiting class, expect
many changes for the prospects in this initial ranking.
Because this is the first attempt at ranking the top 250 prospects in the 2017
class, there cannot be a previous rank or a difference in rank this time around.
That will come next time as changes take place in the 2017 class rankings.
Here is an in-depth look at the prospects who moved up a classification within
the four-star rankings and those recruits who moved up to four-star status in
the Rivals250.Â
"The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect had great showings at the USC and UCLA camps
on back-to-back days, doing enough to earn a scholarship offer from the Bruins.
Ah You played quarterback his sophomore season out of necessity, but he didn't
show any signs of rust in the secondary. He looked plenty comfortable in a rover
role, scanning routes as they developed and then breaking quickly to the
football. Ah You was smooth in his backpedal and was particularly impressive
going up to make plays in traffic."

"Carson saw his stock rise significantly as his tape made the rounds and college coaches were able to see him in person. He is a legitimate 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds and he is explosive off the ball." -- Howell |

"Gamble, a Miami commitment, has a devastating burst and is a well-rounded receiver that does a lot of things pretty well. He doesn't have sprinter speed and isn't a giant, long target, but he is certainly quicker than plenty of cornerbacks and bigger than a number of other highly regard wideouts. What makes Gamble so effective is his blend of solid size and above-average quickness. He boasts an impressive vertical to go along with that." -- Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst Rob Cassidy |

"Donaldson was one of the most pleasant surprises at Florida State's June camp. He is incredibly powerful and moves his feet well for someone 6-foot-6, 335 pounds. Donaldson lines up at tackle and plays the position well, but he also has the build and the body to be a truly elite guard at the next level should that be where he lands." -- Cassidy |

"Thompson has a big arm and he throws with some nice velocity. He is one of the bigger dual-threat quarterbacks and his size (6-4, 210) and athleticism are currently his biggest assets. He has a lot of upside as he continues to refine his game." -- Howell |

"Kelley was one of the top underclassmen at RCS: Los Angeles in early May, putting good spin on his throws while maintaining his accuracy. He releases with a bit of a hitch, but that didn't affect the velocity or timing during the one-on-one portion of camp. The 6-foot-2, 173-pound prospect put up huge numbers as a sophomore and has shown the tools that should make him one of the region's top signal callers this fall." -- Angulo |

"The USC commit and son of Trojans' wide receivers coach Tee Martin has some serious ability. Rodgers showed off at the USC Rising Stars Camp his ability to run by cornerbacks, he's super speedy down the field and he can separate late in his routes as well. Rodgers also has excellent hands as he caught balls thrown poorly all day long. USC landed a big-time receiver who can stretch the field with ease." -- Rivals.com West Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney |

"The two-way prospect has only played cornerback for about a year but he looked very comfortable at the position during the IMG 7v7 West Regional in Southern California this past spring, sticking to receivers on the edge and also covering well on shorter routes. Ahmed worked out at running back at USC's Rising Stars Camp and showed enough burst and explosiveness to pick up an offer from the Trojans. He has the speed and elusiveness to be a dynamic weapon at the next level." -- Angulo |

"Webb, a very sure-handed receiver, is surprisingly explosive despite being a bigger wide receiver (6-2, 200 pounds). Breaking press coverage is not a problem for him and he isn't afraid of going up for the ball in traffic or in the middle of the field. At the Rivals Camp Series in New Jersey, when running a crossing route, Webb show off his hands by hauling in a pass thrown way behind him with one hand." -- Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Analyst Adam Friedman |

"Register came into the Rivals Camp Series in Charlotte eager to impress and that's exactly what he did. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect impressed with his speed for a player his size and was also very good at making plays in space. He's more of a pass-catching tight end but should be an ideal fit in South Carolina's scheme." -- Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst Woody Wommack |
