To this point, Youngstown (Ohio) Ursuline wide receiver Derrick Stewart has shown an interest in keeping his college search close to home.
Stewart, 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, is a speedy wideout who recently ran the 40-yard dash in an impressive 4.38 seconds. His list of top schools includes Akron, Wisconsin, Iowa, Pittsburgh, Penn State, West Virginia, and Cincinnati.
Although he’s receiving attention from other schools, Stewart said his leaders consist of Akron, Wisconsin, and Cincinnati.
“I just recently returned from a camp at Akron and I have to say I like the fact Akron is close to home and it’s a good academic school. The coaches are real down to earth and I think I fit in there.”
Staying in Ohio is something Stewart seems very comfortable with. Besides Akron, he’s also giving a strong look at Cincinnati, a place where he intends to camp at later this month.
“I’m really familiar with some of the coaches at Cincinnati, which makes me feel good, after camp I’ll see if I get that offer.”
Stewart currently has offers from Akron and Wisconsin, and he hopes to draw a couple more before he makes his decision.
“The thing I’m looking for most is to see where I’ll fit in best as a player, that’s why I’m looking at Wisconsin as well, because they know how to develop NFL talent.”
As a junior Stewart played cornerback In addition to wideout.
