Adam Gorney's takeaways from adidas Unleashed

LOS ANGELES – The adidas Unleashed event was held at Los Angeles Cathedral on Wednesday and several top-rated prospects were joined by some NFL stars in one of the summer’s best showings. Here are some takeaways.

LAMB DOWN TO TWO

Notre Dame and UCLA are the two finalists for four-star Jack Lamb, one of the best linebackers in this class, and a decision is expected probably by the end of July, certainly before his senior season.

Washington, Oregon and Penn State (where his parents went to school) have also been considered but the Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak standout is really focusing on the Irish and the Bruins down the stretch.

A good source told me that UCLA probably has the edge right now for numerous reasons but Lamb sure talked highly of Notre Dame during the Unleashed event. He loves the academics there, and the prestige and tradition of the school.

It’s going to be close for Lamb’s services.

DANIELS TO VISIT MICHIGAN

A big visit is coming up for 2019 five-star quarterback JT Daniels.

He will be at Michigan in the next few weeks and one of the most important things for the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei star is to sit down and get more familiar with coach Jim Harbaugh and passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton.

Daniels is super smart and knows what he wants – a pro-style offense where he can thrive and that will also prepare him for a possible NFL future. No schools with spread offenses are being considered.

That’s one reason why Michigan has a real shot. Another is because of the NFL pedigree of Harbaugh and Hamilton. I think USC and Stanford are out front right now but this trip to Ann Arbor could definitely be a major one.

HALL TO RELEASE TOP 10

Five-star wide receiver Jalen Hall is going to release a top 10 around the start of his senior season although he’s not giving away any hints on which teams will make the list.

The Long Beach (Calif.) Poly standout, who played last season at Los Angeles Hawkins, said Nebraska, Ole Miss, Ohio State, USC, UCLA and Arizona State are recruiting him the hardest and added that there are others but those schools came to mind first.

It’s safe to bet many, if not all of those programs, will make his top 10. I would expect to see some SEC programs on there as well – especially since Poly five-star quarterback Matt Corral has Georgia, Florida and Alabama high on his list.

There has been a lot of recent chatter that Hall is looking to leave Southern California for college and that he and Corral could play together. That could bode very well for Georgia since Corral is so high on the Bulldogs but many others are pursuing Hall as well.

“It’s something I would consider,” Hall said of playing with Corral. “What’s best for him might not be best for me but if we feel like we could do something at a school together at the next level then that would be cool.”

All five official visits are expected for Hall and he probably won’t announce his commitment until National Signing Day.

TAYLOR-STUART BREAKS IT DOWN

Ohio State is still a major frontrunner for four-star defensive back Isaac Taylor-Stuart but Texas A&M is emerging as a legitimate contender as well.

The San Diego (Calif.) Helix standout who was outstanding at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas this summer said he loves the coaching staff in College Station and has befriended a bunch of commits over the last few months.

Official visits to those two schools are almost certain and USC remains a top player as well although it seems like the Buckeyes and Aggies have really captured his attention this summer.

Unofficial visits to Illinois and Oregon could also happen soon. My gut feeling is that Ohio State and USC look best – even though he hasn’t visited with the Buckeyes yet – and he’s going to keep a close watch on A&M. If he takes an official visit to College Station then the Aggies could move way up.

PAC-12 LEADER FOR DOLLARS

Oregon is the early favorite for 2019 four-star running back Sean Dollars, who looked great at the event and has a tremendous burst of speed coming out of the backfield.

In an offense like the one Oregon runs, the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., prospect could be a really dynamic weapon catching passes from the slot or coming out of the backfield.

And after a recent visit, Dollars said the Ducks are on top. He loved everything about the coaching staff and especially the facilities.

“The building looked like the CIA building,” Dollars said.

Washington, Utah, UCLA and Arizona State have also been aggressively recruiting Dollars, who is headed to camp with the Huskies on Thursday. It could be a big trip as he compares Washington to Oregon.
