ACC Breakdown: Prospects arrive for Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is set to hold its 80th incarnation on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon, the bulk of the players in the event registered and met with the media. There was plenty of notable news as it relates to the ACC and some of the schools best programs. Here’s a rundown of days happenings broken down by program.

CLEMSON

Justin Foster
Justin Foster

Rivals250 linebacker Justin Foster committed to Clemson during the season and was expecting to enroll early. Those plans have changed and Foster will now graduate with the rest of the senior class in the spring. He will take his official visit to Clemson in January and is not talking to any other schools.

DUKE

Matthew Butler
Matthew Butler

Despite some thoughts that South Carolina might still be in the mix for Blue Devils commitment Lummie Young, he said he’s staying locked in with his commitment … Duke’s coaches have done a good job recruiting defensive lineman Matthew Butler who has a final list of N.C. State, Texas A&M, Penn State, Tennessee, and South Carolina along with the Blue Devils. Butler will announce his commitment on Dec. 21, with Duke considered a long shot at this point.

FLORIDA STATE

The Seminoles have been pursuing Rivals100 South Carolina commit Hamsah Nasirildeen for a while and it seems like they’ve turned up the heat since losing safety Daniel Wright to Alabama. Nasirildeen took an official visit to Florida State during the season but doesn’t have any other visits planned right now. Despite being committed, Nasirilideen said he likely won’t know a final decision until National Signing Day.

GEORGIA TECH

After flipping from East Carolina to Georgia Tech last month, Yellow Jackets running back commitment Jerry Howard said there won’t be anymore drama in his recruitment. He’s expected to stick with the Jackets and said he’s looking forward to seeing the field early in his career.

LOUISVILLE

Linebacker Trajan McQueen has been in talks with Louisville for a while and it seems like they will get him on campus before Signing Day for an official visit. Depending on how things shake out on the Cardinals board, they could be the team to beat for McQueen. McQueen is expected to make his announcement sometime in late January.

N.C. STATE

Davondre Robinson

The Wolfpack are likely to get an official visit from three-star South Carolina defensive back Davondre “Tank” Robinson next month, according to Robinson. He said the Wolfpack continue to tell him he is an excellent fit and that he has had regular conversations with head coach Dave Doeren … Defensive back commit Chris Ingram was at check in and is not expected to look around… Defensive lineman Matthew Butler had some good things to say about N.C. State and his relationships with the coaches. He will announce a commitment on Dec. 21. His other finalists are Texas A&M, South Carolina, Duke, Penn State, and Tennessee….Rivals250 offensive lineman T.J. Moore just finished up a visit to N.C. State and enjoyed his time there. He has visits to Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina set up in January but a commitment could come at any time.

VIRGINIA TECH

Three-star defensive end Brad Johnson returned home from his Virginia Tech official visit just in time to make it to Spartanburg for check-in. He said he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Blacksburg and it’s clear the Hokies set the bar high. He has trips to South Carolina and Tennessee coming up next month before he announces his commitment … Another prime target for the Hokies in South Carolina is defensive back Davondre “Tank” Robinson. He said he’s planning an official visit next month and that the Hokies have been the most consistent team in his recruitment as of late … After setting the state record for average touchdowns per game, Caleb Farley has already graduated and will enroll at Virginia Tech in a few weeks…Rivals250 offensive lineman T.J. Moore will visit Blacksburg in January along with Tennessee and South Carolina. He just visited N.C. State and a commitment could come at any time.

WAKE FOREST

Three-star running back Christian Beal is set to enroll at Wake Forest in just a few weeks and said everything is on track regarding his status with the school. Beal, who keeps a low profile on the recruiting front, said he hasn’t been in touch with any other schools and has no plans to waver on his commitment.
