MANDEVILLE, La. -- Tamauzia Brown may be one of the more low-profile personalities amongst high-profile prospects in Texas, he’s letting one thing be known: First and foremost, he’s a wide receiver.

That could be a bit of a tough message for a team like Arkansas to receive - who is hoping to land the Newton High School trio of Brown, running back Darwin Barlow and athlete Josh Foster. An understandable request from Brown’s perspective, as he does a little bit of everything on offense for his high school team.

“I want to play offense, and that’s what I’ve been trying to tell every coach,” he said. “[Arkansas] still sees me as an NFL DB.”

Brown has been a target of Texas and Texas A&M, but in-state, he said that TCU and Texas Tech have sent the message to him that he has a role catching passes for their teams than defending them. Brown said that even though the Razorbacks still haven’t come around on him as an offensive player, they remain a major player in his recruitment thanks in part to the interest his teammates have in them.

IN HIS WORDS

On Arkansas

“They have been talking to me about playing corner or safety,” he said. “They have been asking me, Josh and Darwin to come up there on an official visit and that’s probably what we’re going to do … We all like the big schools and we’re all trying to go play together.”

On TCU

“We [cornerbacks coach Jeremy Modkins] talk every single day on the phone and FaceTime,” he said. “He comes up to the school when he can and watches us, and we’re getting ready for spring football and stuff.”

On Texas Tech

“They’re in the mix because I want to play receiver,” he said. “They just need to keep in contact - they’ve been off-and-on. TCU hits me up every single day, and that’s the kind of stuff that I like.”

RIVALS REACTION

Pitching Brown the idea of playing something other than receiver - where he is so clearly naturally talented - is a bit perplexing and a seemingly tall order, but he does have the sort of build and ball skills that would make for an imposing defensive back. Brown is planning on announcing and signing on National Signing Day with Barlow and Foster, so there is plenty of time for any team to sell him on a role should he find a school he feels comfortable with otherwise.
