3-Star TE Christian Trahan's recruitment picking up steam

Teams in search of a more versatile tight end option in 2018 are starting to give Sulphur, Louisiana, recruit Christian Trahan a hard look.

He doesn’t have the traditionally long body type expected of most top-level players at the position, but that seems to be the appeal to him as a player. He’s capable of going up to win jump-balls and physical battles, but nimble enough to make plays out of the backfield.

Trahan said that Oklahoma State tight ends coach Jason McEndoo had just that sort of role in mind when they came through with an offer for him last August.

“I like that offense a lot,” he said. “They use their H-Back in more of a blocking scheme, but they slide them out to the slot too and they catch a lot of balls.”

Things should continue to pick up for him as he looks to make the rounds this spring to get a better idea of which schools might provide him the best fit beyond their respective offenses.

IN HIS WORDS

On SMU

“Coach (Keith) Gunn was just telling me that I’m a really good fit for their offense,” he said. “I’m a tight end that can line up in the slot and put my hand down and play some H-Back. He was also just telling me how academically I can fit in because it’s a small environment.”

After going to a SMU game last season

“It was nice, I liked the campus,” he said. “I really liked what I saw from them on offense - it reminded me a lot of what we do at my high school right now.”

On Louisiana Tech

“They said that they like big-bodied guys because they line their tight ends up in the backfield as more of a fullback sometimes,” he said. “I have a few family members up there, they just tell me how nice of a campus it is and how good it is academically.”

RIVALS REACTION

Trahan has been in regular contact with the teams that are traditionally strong at identifying talent and offering early, but it’s no surprise that he also has designs of catching the eye of the nearby resident SEC program as well. Trahan is looking to attend LSU’s junior day on February 18 as he feels the Tigers coaching staff has taken notice of him and he wants to give them a closer look at what kind of player he is.

“More of their coaches are following me on twitter and I think that relationship is getting a little stronger,” he said.
