DALLAS, Tex. -- Now that three-star all purpose back Cam Lampkin has opened his recruitment with an offer from Colorado, a few more could be in order.
Of course, that doesn't mean he's not over the moon about his offer from the Buffaloes.
“At first, I didn’t really know about it,” he said of his offer. “My coach called me and said that he needed to know how much I weighed so he could call Coach [Darrin Chiaverini] and the next day, when I was in Algebra, he came and called me out of class and gave me the offer. I couldn’t believe it at first, but then it was like a dream come true.”
Since then, Lampkin said that things have progressed with Chiaverini. He’s reminiscent of 2018 signee Deion Smith, and is one of the latest players offered from the Texas pipeline Colorado has built in recent years.
“I’m loving the relationship with him,” he said. “Just to know that he truly believes in me and he can give me a shot to get the job done.”
IN HIS WORDS
On North Texas, who offered him in mid-February
“I like North Texas, they’re showing me some real good love out there,” he said. “They’re close, so I’ve got them in my back pocket too … I like it out there, it’s very nice. They help everyone out grade-wise, athletic-wise, so I like what I’ve been seeing.”
On Louisiana Tech, who he feels could be next to offer
I’ve talked to Coach (Joe) Sloane almost every day,” he said. “He’s really trying to get me on campus, so I’m trying to go down there - I really like it there.”
RIVALS REACTION
It’s not just Chiaverini that has been giving Lampkin the sales pitch. Fellow Dallas-area product and 2018 signee Jarek Broussard has been working on Lampkin as well since he picked up his offer.
“He just said that I need to come there,” Lampkin said. “He’s been saying that he’s enjoying it out there.”
Lampkin is a speedy and slippery player in space that can play a variety of skill positions on either side of the ball. As the spring rolls on, more offers could be on the horizon, but Colorado has certainly made an early impression.
