The Latest: Class of 2018 three-star wide receiver Jaquan Webb has an extensive offer list, but he doesn’t have to look far from home to find one of his most aggressive suitors. Webb, who hails from Oxford, Miss. has received more than his fair share of attention from Ole Miss, his hometown university and was recently on campus in Oxford. Rivals.com recently caught up with Webb to talk recruiting as well as relationship with the Rebels coaches.
In His Words: “I like it at Ole Miss. I like what they're doing with the program. They had a down year last year some people would say but I mean it was just little stuff really. They were up 20 points on Florida State and Alabama and they could have changed their season with those wins.”
On his fit in the offense: “They want me going straight down field. They want me to be at deep threat in their offense and be that guy who can make big plays.”
On growing up in Oxford: “I didn’t grow up rooting for Ole Miss, mainly because I didn’t go to football games. I knew about football but I didn’t go to games so I wasn’t really a fan of anybody.”
On Ole Miss wide receiver tradition: “They have a lot of good wide receivers. It would mean a lot to be a part of that group. I would just try to work hard and raise my game to compete with those guys.”
On his relationship with Ole Miss WR coach Jacob Peeler: “He's a pretty cool guy. He talked to me and broke it down and showed me what he did with the guys when he was at California. He worked with my technique and my releases off the line and stuff like that. It meant a lot when he got the job that he came to me and started recruiting me right away. I wasn't sure when he came in what would happen but he told me right away he liked me and wanted me.”
Rivals Reaction: Top-notch prospects rarely leave the state of Mississippi when seriously perused by Ole Miss or Mississippi State so it’s not a surprise to see the Rebels emerge as the early favorite for Webb. He’s relatively tight-lipped when it comes to his recruitment so his comments about Ole Miss and Peeler could be telling as his process moves along.
