For Cibolo-Steele 3-Star linebacker Juan Henry, there’s little doubt that the best is yet to come in his recruitment. That future got started last week when he picked up his first offer from Colorado State.

Henry - who was a recent visitor to Texas at the Longhorns’ junior day event at the end of February - has designs on picking up some more high-profile offers, but there is always something special about picking up that first one.

“Picking up that offer made my heart jump for joy,” he said. “It felt like my breakthrough was finally here and all I could think about was calling my dad to share the news with him. He’s been the one that has been with me through all the ups and downs through the whole recruiting process.”

No doubt more ups than downs are on the way for Henry, who has been an invite to participate at all the major camp events in Texas this spring. He said that for now, he doesn’t have further trips for campus visits planned, but said that schools like Georgia, Kansas State and Tulsa have picked up their communication with him recently.

IN HIS WORDS

Recapping his visit to Texas

”The best part was getting out on the field and trying on the jerseys,” he said. “That visit had a lot to show me; big-time for sure. Coach (Tom) Herman and his staff used to be at Houston, so seeing them back in Austin, it felt like home again.”

On his time spent with defensive coordinator Todd Orlando

“We just talked mostly about the packages and stuff that he would have me in if I were to go there,” he said. “They showed me three different looks - an even, odd, and a tight package and basically I could be doing it all from putting my hand in the dirt, dropping back or rushing off the end.”

On Georgia

“They’ve talked to my dad mostly, but I’d like to be hearing more from them,” he said. “I like the stuff they’re doing down there. Watching their defense, yeah they lost a couple of games last season, but I feel like they’re going to bounce back next season with the players they recruited this year.”

On Texas-San Antonio

“They had been on me until Coach (Eric) Henderson left,” he said. “I like UTSA - I loved my last visit [last November]. Most of the staff is from New Orleans and I used to grow up there. I built a strong relationship with Coach Henderson but I hope they get back on me.”

RIVALS REACTION

Henry didn’t leave Texas with an offer, but he was one of just a few linebackers invited to Austin over the junior day weekend. Programs are well aware of his size and measurables and he shouldn’t expect to have to wait much longer for more and bigger offers to start coming in. Now that the Rams have broken the seal on his recruitment, others will follow as the spring progresses.
