DALLAS – 2020 Rivals100 defensive tackle Branard Wright was among the Carter players disappointed following a loss to south Dallas rival Kimball on Saturday night.

The matchup wasn’t a district game, but losing in the ‘Oak Cliff Super Bowl’ was disheartening nonetheless. Some players hung their heads, others cried, but Wright did his best to remain stoic with the majority of his junior season left to play.

“Things have been going alright for me, but we’ve got to come together as a unit,” he said. “Basically, we just need to be playing better by October so we can be playing in December.”

Wright wrapped his summer with a visit to Oklahoma during the last weekend of July between dead periods, but other than that, hasn’t been overly involved with his recruitment with the season still in its early stages. He is keeping tabs on Texas A&M, where he also took a relatively recent visit and no doubt noticed that two of his class’ top prospects in Demond Demas and Malik Hornsby committed following the Aggies narrow loss to Clemson. Otherwise, he said Florida has become somewhat of an early dark horse among the programs he’s interested in.

IN HIS WORDS

On Florida

“My relationship with them – I’m going to have to go down there and experience it – but it’s good right now,” he said. “They’ve been showing me a lot of love … I know [Dan Mullen] has had some good defensive teams, but it would be nice to experience a game out there.”

On his Oklahoma visit

“It was a great experience out there,” he said. “Coach (Calvin) Thibodeaux was real friendly with me. He was just in a great spirit out there and he really showed me a good time … They’ve been on me pretty hard, I’m just waiting to hear back from Coach Thibodeaux about which game they want me to come back.”

On Texas A&M

“I was out there for a little visit and I liked it, Coach Fisher showed me a good time,” he said. “I feel like the defensive line coach, Coach E [Elijah Robinson] is going to keep hollering at me and talking to me.”
