DALLAS, Tex. -- Lufkin, Texas, 2020 wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk already has one offer under his belt, but if the end of his sophomore season is any indication, this spring could yield a couple more for him before it’s all over with.

Polk is a tall and sturdy wide receiver prospect for his age, and showed at a recent Fast Houston 7v7 training session that he has the deep speed to match. That’s probably what Illinois was thinking when the Illini were the first to offer him over the summer after seeing him participate in a megacamp the staff helped operate.

After picking up the offer, Polk said there hasn’t been much communication between the two sides, but he’s likely to stay a secret forever.

“We haven’t really been in contact since they gave me the offer,” he said. “I don’t know if they’re planning on coming back to me or not, we just have to see about that. I think things will pick up (with others) as long as I work hard and do what I do.”

Polk is a major breakout candidate not just this offseason on the 7v7 and camp circuit, but for his high school team next fall. He and athlete Breylon Garcia, who is returning from a broken leg, give the Panthers a big, physical, one-two punch in the passing game.

“I had a good season to end it and we made it to the fourth round,” he said. “They started feeding me more and I went for like 26 catches for almost 700 yards.”

Polk said that he has been invited to Texas’ upcoming February 17 junior day event, and he hopes to attend another at Kansas State in early March.
