DALLAS, Tex. -- New Caney, Texas, defensive back Dwight McGlothern opened up his recruitment last spring with a bang when his first offer came via LSU. Since then, he’s added a number of other high-profile offers, but things with the Tigers have been relatively cool.

Now, as he gets into the spring preceding his junior season, he’s hopeful that LSU puts a nice bow on this year’s recruiting class so that the staff can return to fostering its relationship with him.

“They’ve been alright,” he said. “They’ve just got to finish things up with the 2018 class. I don’t know where they stand at right now, coming out of the end of last season.”

McGlothern had a nice season this year after sliding over to safety, with 10 passes defensed and four interceptions in coverage. With his length and versatility, he should continue to draw the attention of top-tier programs. He said in recent days, Penn State has been the latest to taking a shine to him.

“I feel like I did good,” he said. “I was out there playing safety on the first team, running some receiver, I did good moving from corner to safety, we had some freshmen getting to play but I had to take the leadership role of the secondary this year.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Penn State

“They’ve been the top school that I have been talking to lately,” he said. “We always facetime and stuff. They should be coming down to see me … I’ve been talking with Coach Terry (Smith), [assistant recruiting coordinator] Justin (King), I’ve been talking with everyone.”

“They really want me up there and I’m trying to go up there,” he said. “It’s nice up there they showed me how it is on facetime and stuff. I talked to Coach (James) Franklin, I like them.”

RIVALS REACTION

Penn State is no stranger to recruiting defensive backs out in Texas. In 2018, the Nittany Lions landed Sachse three-star safety Isaiah Humphries and four-star Manvel DB Trent Gordon. McGlothern has an otherwise impressive offer list outside of LSU and some other SEC teams, but going back to the end of last spring, haven’t shown him the same sort of attention that he’s started to see from some other programs.
