2020 CB Jaylon Jones talks Aggies, Cowboys & Horns offers

As more players in the 2020 class are beginning to emerge as some of the most talked about prospects in football recruiting, Cibolo-Steele cornerback Jaylon Jones is becoming a familiar name – particularly in Texas.

After wrapping up May with an offer from Texas A&M, Jones picked up an offer from Texas last weekend at a UT prospect camp. Baylor and Houston offered him much earlier in the spring and he’s picked up several other offers from out-of-state as well.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he said of his recent offers from the Aggies and Longhorns. “Getting offered by both programs is huge for me and really exciting. I feel really good about both of them; two perfect programs, so we’ll see if one of them starts feeling like home.”

Jones said that he doesn’t have further plans to do much more camping over the summer, and will be taking some vacation time in the coming weeks as well. Although he’s interested in making a return to College Station, he said that the only visit that’s on the agenda as of right now is a trip back to UT on July 26.

On Oklahoma State, where he has visited on a junior day and for the Cowboys spring game

“I talked to [2018 signee JayVeon Cardwell] about it way back when I got the offer and asked him about what it was like up there and stuff like that,” he said. “I’ve been out there a couple of times and Stillwater is a pretty good town, not too loud, It’s a nice place to be.”

On his junior day and spring game visits

“Loyalty is what stands out with them – having them be my first offer,” he said. “The communication is pretty strong right now. I call them about every week and just say what’s up to Coach (Tim) Duffie … the relationship with him is pretty good; he’s one of those guys that even if you go someplace else, you feel like you can depend on him and he’s got your back no matter what.”

On his talks with Texas 2018 signee Caden Sterns about the Longhorns

“Caden is up there and it would be nice to reunite with him,” he said. “I talked to him when he came down for one of our spring practices and I was just asking him about how it was up there and he let me know that you always have to do everything right, can’t be lacking, taking plays off or none of that – it’s on a different level out there.”

On Texas A&M, where he camped last Friday

“It was good to talk to all the coaches and get a look at the inside of the stadium and all that,” he said. “It was truly great to get the vibe of what home is like there, talking to Jimbo (Fisher), Coach Mo [Maurice Linguist] and all them, they’ve been recruiting me hard. Coach Fisher is a really good guy; someone who likes to win, is committed to the game, and that’s what I like.”

“I think they think of me as a good guy that they’re really interested in,” he said. “The way they treated me when I was out there was just a really good feeling for me and my family. So just going up there as a DB, especially in 2020, is huge considering they’re building one of the best classes in America in 2019.”
