Cam’Ron Kelly has a lengthy offer sheet but hasn’t spoken much about the teams he is most involved with. The 2019 Rivals250 defensive back out of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith reveals his future plans and which schools have piqued his interest.
IN HIS OWN WORDS…
“Clemson, Oregon, Stanford, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, Michigan, Penn State, and N.C. State are the offers that caught my eye,"Kelly said. "I’ve been waiting for the Washington offer. I'm from there. It would be amazing to be able to go back to my hometown and have a chance to play football for them. I took a trip to Clemson, Penn State, Virginia, and N.C. State. Back in the spring I visited Florida State and got the offer from them.
"I need to get to the West Coast schools," he said. "Oregon has always been a good program. I also need to get to Stanford. It's amazing the way that Oregon staff has been able to turn everything around. The defensive backs coach and coach Arroyo are the ones that are recruiting me for Oregon. They said that I could come in there and play.
"Having a Stanford offer is amazing," said Kelly. "You have to stay in the books to get an offer from them. Being able to go to school like that and play Power Five football is amazing. You can't get much better than that. Because so many defensive backs are leaving after this year, defensive backs will be big in 2019 class for them. I need to take the SAT and I think I will be taking that this fall.
"I'd like to commit before next season," he said. "It might be earlier in the offseason too. There's a lot to consider. It will depend on how visits go and I'll be able to take official visits spring.
"Coach Nick Howell from Virginia is an amazing guy," Kelly said. "I met his whole family. Coach Venables from Clemson is a great guy. Coach Haggins from Florida State has a good relationship with me and so does coach Clark from Oregon.
"I definitely want to visit Clemson pretty soon," he said. "It’ll for the Auburn game on September 9th. I know going Penn State for my birthday weekend for the Michigan game. I think that's a whiteout game. On my week off I'm probably going to go to Oregon for a game. I think that will be September 2nd but I’m not sure."
RIVALS’ REACTION
Coaches love Kelly’s football IQ and length in the secondary. It’s early to be anointing favorites but Clemson, Penn State, Florida State, Oregon, Stanford, and Washington all have his attention. We will all find out more as the contact period starts and Kelly takes more visits but expect Kelly to continue to pursue these six schools as long as the interest is mutual.
