TCU has been proactive about getting involved with defensive backs in the 2018 class, and the Horned Frogs may have another target in budding cornerback prospect Jonathan McGill.
McGill, who holds offers from Nevada and SMU already, chose to forego the Mustangs’ spring game last weekend in favor of a visit to Fort Worth.
“The TCU visit went great,” he said. “I got to chat it up with Coach (Paul) Gonzales, the cornerbacks coach, about some things and them eventually offering me. He told me that he will be back during spring practices and he’s looking forward to seeing me then.”
That was the first visit to TCU for McGill, who had already taken a recent visit to SMU this spring. Although TCU has some new appeal to McGill, he hasn’t forgotten about where he stands with the Mustangs staff.
“They’re the first team to take a shot on me and I really appreciate it,” he said. “Me and my family both love SMU both academically and athletically with their coaching staff. They’re going to stay high on my radar.”

“I was at the up at SMU before one of their scrimmages and I went to their meetings prior,” he said. “I have been in contact with SMU since a camp last June and I have just been building a good relationship with Coach (Joe) Craddock, Coach (Chad) Morris and also Coach (Jess) Loepp.”
On Nevada
“Me and Coach (Chip) Viney have had a good relationship,” he said. “I was talking with him when he was over at (Oklahoma) and when he relocated to Nevada we still kept that relationship and it’s been good.”
RIVALS REACTION
McGill is a young prospect that many in the Dallas area are excited about. This time a year ago he was a participant in the Rivals Camp Series as an offensive athlete, and has transitioned to the defensive side of the ball this spring with positive results. He also said the he hopes to make a visit to Nevada over the summer.
