2018 four-star defensive tackle Keondre Coburn sat outside of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday night replaying his performance at the Longhorns’ Under the Lights camp in his head.

He was hoping that he showed well-enough that the Texas coaches were interested in offering.

“I feel like I did good, but I still need to work on some stuff,” he said. “I got challenged out there, but I came through so I feel good about it.”

Charlie Strong and company aren’t always the first to extend or make offers known very early in the process, but Coburn already holds them from the likes of Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, and others. In fact, he pushed back a visit to College Station to be in attendance at UTL.

“I was supposed to go to A&M today, but I chose to come here,” he said. “But I’m going to go next week. I’m just looking to continue getting to know them; I haven’t visited the school yet.”

IN HIS WORDS

TEXAS

“This is one of my favorite Texas schools, so they would be right up there,” he said. “I was impressed with everything they told me and I just like the coaches.”

“The coach asked me, ‘If I give you one, are you going to look at us?’” he said. “I was like ‘yeah,’ so now I gotta wait.”

TCU

“I love TCU, when I went up there I just loved the school,” he said. “I like [defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch] most. He just tells you the truth, he doesn’t lie to you, he’s just up-front in how he feels about you and what he wants from his team and I like that.”

RIVALS REACTION

Coburn’s interests seem to lie most heavily with TCU for the time-being. He was most upbeat in discussing the Horned Frogs and of the schools that have already offered him, he thinks he is a good fit in TCU’s defense early on.

“My power, getting low and getting off the ball,” he said when listing his strengths as a player. “I would probably say Texas A&M and TCU look like they would use me the best right now.”

He is a similar type of player to Daylon Mack, and shows the same sort of trajectory with his quickness and power. In a couple of events this spring, Coburn has looked more impressive on the hoof than in actual competition, but he clearly has the physical tools and desire to reach the potential many top programs already see in him.
