4-Star LSU commit Queen focused on becoming even more physical

Patrick Queen has shown again and again this spring that he’s a prize catch as an athletic linebacker prospect, but the LSU commit doesn’t necessarily agree.

“I want to play safety,” he said.

LSU coaches might do him one better; Queen said the staff has told him that his future with the Tigers could take on a variety of roles, ranging from linebacker to safety and even kick-return duty. Last weekend, Queen was part of an EPS Blaze team that advanced to the semifinals of the Pylon 7v7 National Championships, where he patrolled the back end of the secondary.

Playing well in passing tournaments is one thing, but far from the only thing that LSU coaches would like to see Queen show well with heading into his senior year. With the 2016 football season fast-approaching, Queen said that he has one major objective.

“They just want to see me get more physical than I have been,” he said. “I haven’t been playing as much defense, so that’s why they want to see me play physical.”

The 7-on-7 season gave Queen the opportunity to make it to LSU a few weeks ago and he should be back again soon for another event hosted on campus on July 16.

“I am going to get out there for sure two or three more times,” he said. “I know we have another 7-on-7 tournament for our school out there coming up so I am going to be there for that.

“I hadn’t really known how they worked with kids and how they coached some things,” he said of his most recent visit. “When I was out there though, I saw everything I needed to see.”
