It seems like just yesterday that everyone was looking forward to the 2024 football season and all the hope that came with it. Suddenly, it's now November, and the Tigers are trying to eke their way into a bowl game after a difficult start to the season.
The win at Kentucky was a move in the right direction, and now, with three straight home games, Hugh Freeze and his team have a shot at gaining some more momentum going into the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa later this month.
But what's that? Did I hear the squeaking of basketball shoes on the hardwood? Yes, Bruce Pearl and his Tigers play Florida Atlantic in an exhibition in Neville Arena on Friday night and welcome Vermont to officially start the 2024-25 season on Wednesday. It will be busy on the Plains during the next several months, so let's buckle up and, oh, what the heck, let's do some ramblings.
- I had an optometrist appointment last week, and, as always, I felt like I was playing some game where I had to trick the doctor into thinking I was actually seeing the letters in the mirror. My eyes have improved, so there's good news to be had.
- On The Rundown on Monday, I set an over/under for Chad Baker-Mazara technical fouls for the season at 4.5. Let me know if you want any action on that.
- Do you think Diego Pavia's teammates quietly despise him because of all the attention he receives? Probably not, but I would love for the Commodores to have some kind of locker-room drama going on.
- I can only imagine what my friends who met my sister and her husband in Lexington asked them about me when I was in another conversation. My best guesses are, "Was he always a little insane?" and, "Seriously, did your parents ever have him checked into a mental facility?" Nah. I bet they were more like, "Why has he not won a Pulitzer yet?" In the words of Jon Lovitz, that's the ticket!
- B-Matt wrote about this in his musings on Monday (sponsored by Uncle Keith's Red Sauce, if you haven't heard), but I am doubling down and stating how amazing the Auburn fans were in Lexington last weekend. Their impact was definitely felt.
- KeAndre Lambert-Smith is a stud. That was a transfer portal win by a wide margin.
- TikTok of the Week: This young kid is living the dream. I hope in 16 or so years, he is marching with the Auburn University Marching Band onto the field.
- At halftime of the Missouri game, I was watching and listening to the Mizzou halftime show when I boldly and loudly claimed, "Oh, the Superman theme." Well, I was wrong and quickly corrected. It was Star Wars. I've never seen any of the Star Wars.
- Speaking of Mizzou, the loudspeaker played that annoying Timmy Trumpet song before every third-down play. I could throw five darts and find five better songs to pump up a crowd.
- Congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers for overcoming all the struggles and adversity of being such a mid-major with absolutely no payroll to win the World Series. It really does show you that sometimes the underdog wins. (If you aren't hearing my sarcasm, read it louder.)
- If you have Peacock, you can check in on our old pal K.D. Johnson and his antics at George Mason next Friday at 8 p.m. CT as the Patriots play No. 18 Marquette. I'm so looking forward to him introducing himself to the Atlantic-10.
- We are only 27 days away from the best day on the calendar, which is Thanksgiving. I plan on waking up early, going to some friends' house and making my famous deviled eggs. I look forward to Thanksgiving more than my birthday.
- I love the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (I have said before that Gene Wilder should have won the Oscar for Best Actor that year), and I swear I'm staying away from the fact that Grandpa Joe is the worst movie character in movie history, but what exactly did Augustus Gloop deserve to be sent into that pressure tube? They could have saved him easily. I get the other kids being tortured. They were greedy. But Augustus? He deserved better.
- I literally have no clue nor even want to take the time to Google it, but what did Shirley Temple do to get that drink named after her?
- Jarquez Hunter's performance against Kentucky is something I will never forget witnessing in person. Every time he touched the ball, you just knew he was going to get significant yards. Those were some impressive numbers, and he's set to break the streak of Auburn not having a 1,000-yard rusher.
- Finally, with the election coming up and the nation being as divided as it is, let's all come together and agree on one thing: Robin Williams was a better dramatic actor than comedic. This is a fact. Enjoy your weekend!
