Zips snag a three-star pledge

When you're the MAC champions, you can expect to win a few impressive recruiting battles here and there. That's exactly what Akron did tonight when it secured a commitment from a three-star running back in Virginia.
"I committed to Akron," Virginia Beach (Va.) Cox running back Andre Boone said.

"I just took my visit up there this weekend, and I loved it. I really was impressed with the facilities, the coaches and I'm really comfortable with everything I saw."
Boone, who also had offers from Wake Forest and Marshall, said he was recruited by Zip assistant Aaron Alford. He said he might still take an official visit to Marshall some time in January, though.
"I'm committed," he said. "But I don't want to close the door in and burn any bridges if something happens. Marshall wants me to come up for a visit some time in January, so I'll see what happens."
Boone, who is 5-foot-10 and 179 pounds, rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season, giving him three straight 1,000-yard seasons. He also got in the end zone 13 times.
