Zellner takes first trip, schedules fifth

Sarasota (Fla.) Booker athlete / tight end Chris Zellner is just beginning a full schedule of visits, but his first trip was all he had hoped it would be. He visited Maryland over the weekend and had a good trip, but plans to take all five visits before making a decision.
“It went pretty well,” he commented. “It was nice, really nice. I liked all the coaches. The coaches were great.

“It was my first trip, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was nice.” He was hosted by sophomore wide receiver Derrick Fenner and rated the trip an eight.
Although Maryland was his first visit, Zellner has a full slate ahead of him. He will travel to Clemson on Jan. 9, to Ohio State on a mid-week trip (Jan. 12), to Tennessee on Jan. 23, and Miami on Jan. 30. South Florida and Georgia Tech are also schools still in the running for his signature.
So what will he be looking for over the next month and a half?
“Everything, really,” he said. “I want to feel like I fit in the program and I want to see what the education has to offer. Those are the two main things.”
He has had in-home visits with all of his top schools and South Florida will be in again tomorrow. He plans to take all of his visits before deciding, but is not opposed to making an early decision if the situation feels right to him.
Chris is rated the No. 44 athlete in America by Rivals.com at 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds and boasts a 32-inch vertical leap.
He is also a very good student with a 3.097 GPA and a 920 on the SAT, so qualifying academically will not be a problem.
