Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft linebacker/athlete Malcolm Smith is very competitive - especially with older brother, USC receiver Steve Smith.
Steve Smith played in the U.S. Army All-America game when he was in high school, and now Malcolm Smith can add All-America recognition to his résumé.
Smith, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound four-star prospect, has been selected to play linebacker for the West squad in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. The game will be played on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and will be carried live on ESPNU.
"It's a good opportunity to show what I can do and play with a bunch of top guys," said Smith, one of the most versatile players that will be on the West roster.
Smith is excited about his opportunity to play on national television in Florida.
"I went to Florida when I was real little, and I remember how great the weather was," Smith said. "It can't get too much better than California, but it'll be something new to check out. I want to go out there and show people how good I am and do my best and compete. I'll play anywhere they want me to. Offense, defense, special teams, whatever."
Smith has already taken one official visit to Notre Dame, but he lists USC, UCLA, Penn State and Cal as his other top teams. He has offers from all those teams, along with numerous others from teams like Arizona, Ole Miss, Michigan and Washington.
Others announced today:
Nick Toon | Drew Davis | Brandon Saine
