STAFFORD, Tex. -- Former NFL quarterback Mike Vick’s camp series, in partnership with National Playmakers Academy, the Mike Vick V7 Playmakers Showcase held its penultimate camp at Stafford High School on Sunday. Despite some weather breaking things up halfway through the event, there was still plenty of opportunity for some young guns to shine with other top prospects.

Recruiting Wrap: Preston is down to a Top 6, but isn’t likely to commit until National Signing Day.

Performance: No surprise that the top wide receiver performance during one-on-ones came from Preston, who continues to be an overwhelming combination of size and ball skills for most defensive backs, easily kept himself between passes and defenders to win reps. Many of the local big names in recruiting came out to watch the event and even participate in a few drills, but Preston was committed to showing his dominance and did just that.

Recruiting Wrap: Epps has seemed like a Texas lean since the spring, but he hasn’t been clear about when he’ll choose to announce a commitment.

Performance: Epps won the camp’s King of Texas MVP award and had a dominant day as one of the most physically impressive prospects at the event. He showed a little more exuberance in his route-running and looked as natural as ever reaching out to catch the ball with his hands. His length was often too much for defenders to try to overcome and he turned in one of the best performances Rivals has seen from him this offseason.

Recruiting Wrap: Williams is still waiting on his first offer.

Performance: Williams is fast-developing a reputation as a 2019 receiver with a penchant for the spectacular play. In camps, he’s put defensive backs to sleep with his feet then leaves them in the dust with one cut and he’s gone. Williams doesn’t give up on any pass thrown his way and that resulted in some eye-popping catches in one-on-one reps.

Recruiting Wrap: Baldwin is committed to Oklahoma.

Performance: Although Baldwin’s future is certainly as a cornerback for the Sooners, he took his opportunity at the camp to show off his versatility as a receiver. Earlier this spring at the Rivals Three Stripe Camp presented by adidas in New Orleans he took some offensive reps as well but on Sunday, he could have made a case for himself as one of the top receivers at the event.

Recruiting Wrap: Evans already has offers from LSU, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and others.

Performance: Evans is a 2020 prospect, but but already has all the makings of a star. The North Shore running back had one drop in one-on-ones, but was otherwise unable to kept guarded. He’s a longer running back, but so athletic that it’s easy to envision his ability to burst through the line or push a pile. As he continues to grow and polish up his pass-catching, he’ll be a unanimously lauded running back or all-purpose back recruit.

Recruiting Wrap: McGlothern has early offers from Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon and Tennessee.

Performance: McGlothern was another one of the elite defensive backs spending some time at receiver at the camp, but in his defensive reps, he was also successful. He had one nice interception and just has a naturally long frame that is easy to see as capable of filling out and eventually being capable of lining up anywhere in the secondary.

Recruiting Wrap: Young holds offers from Baylor, Colorado and Iowa State.

Performance: Young also took his turn on offense and looked as natural at receiver as he does in his projected cornerback role. For a 2019 prospect, he’s just so naturally gifted athletically and can win reps on either side of the ball with physical talent alone. Young showed his value the as a defensive back earlier in the month at the state 7-on-7 tournament, and showed how capable he is as an overall player last weekend.

Chad Bailey
Chad Bailey (Rivals.com)

Recruiting Wrap: Bailey recently released a Top 5 of Colorado, Indiana, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech.

Performance: Bailey has shown in spots all spring that he has the ability to cover as a linebacker better and more consistently than others at his position and did so again on Sunday. He’s still working on dropping a little more weight before the start of the season, and with just a little more quickness, can be as complete a linebacker prospect as there is in his class.

Recruiting Wrap: Sumbo is waiting on his first offer.

Performance: Sunday’s camp was essentially a debut performance for Sumbo, who immediately made a name for himself as the camp’s de facto defensive line MVP. There is still a lot of growth and development ahead for Sumbo, but it was clear after the camp’s final offensive/defensive lineman showcase that the arrow is pointing straight up as he displayed a lot of natural power and a rip move that made things very difficult for offensive linemen to slow him down.

Lloyd Murray
Lloyd Murray (Rivals.com)

Recruiting Wrap: Murray decommitted from Florida State earlier this year, but is still considering the Seminoles, Baylor, Texas and others.

Performance: Murray missed hearing the call to compete in the camp’s final round in the offensive/defensive line showcase, but earlier in the camp had shown his power and drive as one of the camp’s best defensive lineman. Murray is always going to rely on his strength and drive as a stout defensive tackle first and foremost and earlier in the afternoon showed how effective he is with those qualities.
