Young plots visit, talks timetable

Those expecting a commitment from Dedrick Young any time in the near future are in for a bit of disappointment. The Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial running back lists eight scholarship offers as things stand now. He's visited a handful of campuses and plans to tour a few more.
A decision is not on the horizon, however. Instead, his attention is focused on trimming his list. This process will move slowly.

"I'm thinking I'd like to narrow the list down toward the middle of the season and take it from there," Young said. "Probably … well, I haven't really thought about committing yet or anything. I'm just wanting to narrow it down during the season."
The only visit currently on Young's schedule is a trip to California's spring game on Apr. 26. And while those plans haven't been finalizes as of yet, Young is confident the trip will take place.
"I know they have a good engineering program," Young said. "I know they're pretty good at football and all that even if they weren't very good this year. I'm either looking at doing computer engineering architecture."
Young names no favorites in the process as things stand now. Instead, he will wait until his list trimming to announce any sort of frontrunner. For now, he's focused on planning travel.
"I think, after Cal, I'm going to try to make it to Washington in June. After that, I don't know," Young said.
Young, who runs track in the offseason, competes in 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles for Centennial. He does not intend to run track on the college level. Instead, he has a checklist of other things he's looking for in a school.
"It's kind of about playing time, but not really," Young said. "It really just depends on the school on that. It's mainly just about atmosphere and if I fit in and all that."
