WVs Carter gives soft pledge to Marshall

Huge Beckley (W.V.) Woodrow Wilson offensive guard Micah Carter has made a verbal commitment to Marshall. The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder committed to the Thundering Herd over offers from Tennessee, Georgia Tech and others.
"I have given them a soft commitment recently when they put an offer on the table," he said. "I think Marshall is the top school for me because I have family and friends that go there unlike at other schools. I particularly like coach Cummings because of the way he talks to me and gets after me. I also like the fact that Marshall is scheduling big-time teams like Miami and Tennessee in the next few years. It would be really cool to be apart of a lower school that can beat a bigger one."

Despite committing, Carter claims to still be a soft verbal.
"I'd say North Carolina is not too far behind Marshall, but they haven't kept in constant contact," he said. "I'm planning to visit them this week and I'm looking to visit Penn State sometime soon. I want to meet Joe Paterno and John Bunting and get to know more about both of their programs. I'd also like to visit Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Ohio State this summer sometime."
What will it take for a school to pull Carter from the Herd?
"It's going to take a lot," he said. "The thing about Marshall is that all my friends and family go there and are familiar with them. I turned down interest and possible offers from Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Tennessee and others. I think if a team like Penn State offered that could change things a lot because I'm a big fan of them and Joe Paterno. I'll have to see more on my visit when I'm there. I think I'll have a final decision probably after my football season."
