Wren thinking Purdue, ASU

MORE: Markel Smith thinking about official visits
Renell Wren's line of thinking is a common one at this time of year - with high school seasons beginning, this is typically the time of year when prospects claim to put their college recruitment on the backburner. The posturing usually lasts roughly two weeks.

The St. Louis Lutheran defensive tackle is no different than his peers. It's as if they've all gotten together and agreed on what to say in late August and early September. Wren rattles off the mantra like an old pro.
"No visits planned at the moment,' he said on Wednesday. "I'm just worried about my school and my games right now. I should be able to take my official visits by the end of the season, though.
When pressed on the issue, Wren's tune changes. It seems a pair of schools are on the sure-thing list for official visits. No dates have been set as of yet, but his very mention of the two programs is about the best you can hope for at this time of the year.
"For sure to official visits would be Purdue and Arizona State," Wren said. "I don't have dates or anything yet because I don't have a top five yet.
Logic would dictate that Arizona State and Purdue have already made Wren's final five. Even if he won't say it, the fact that he's already kicking around the idea of official visits does that for him. In his mind, the Sun Devils and Boilermakers share a few common characteristics.
"Both of them have great campus environments," Wren said. "They have a good university and good education. Both are solid football programs. You know, Arizona State is a little further than Purdue or Missouri. It gets pretty hot down there but, that doesn't matter really."
Wren says he plan to announce his commitment after his senior season but before signing day. He doesn't have a date in mind but he has formed a list of criteria.
"I would say that basically, it's all about the coaches making me feel very welcome there and showing me what there is to offer," Wren said. "The town has to be good to. I have to know it's a good place."
