"He still has a couple of academic hurdles to get past, but he's going to sign with Carolina (on Wednesday)," Smyth said. "They really stuck with him the whole time and remain confident that he can get eligible.
"Some of the other schools on his list wanted him to go ahead think about getting into a junior college, so I think that may have given Carolina an edge."
He was also receiving heavy interest from Clemson and North Carolina, among others.
Kline (6-3, 185, 4.45) caught 61 passes for 1,156 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior.
"The possibilities are endless with him," Smyth said. "He's got Sunday potential, and I say that very guarded. I don't know if I've ever said that about another kid. But he's a player who can really impact and alter the game from the wide receiver position."
