The Cocks picked up a commitment from three-star receiver David Smith of Union, S.C. Smith, who is 6-foot-4 and 181 pounds, picked USC over Clemson, Florida, Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State.
He said early on that USC was his only offer, but that doesn’t downplay the significance of Smith’s commitment.
A tall and talented receiver, Smith is one of the top prospects in South Carolina. As a junior, he caught 76 passes for 1,374 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Smith told the Cock coaches of his commitment at a one-day camp in Columbia.
“It’s a solid commitment,” he said. “I can now focus on the important stuff – like my senior season.”
