WR Gates pulls first offer

One offer is in for Davidson (N.C.) Davidson Day wide receiver Evan Gates. The 6-foot-0, 192-pounder landed the scholarship last weekend and has many other colleges in hot pursuit.
"I went to Appalachian State last Saturday and they verbally offered me," he said. "Appalachian State is a beautiful campus and they are extremely nice. It's kind of early to tell with them as it's early in the process, but I want to get a better feeling for the coaches."

Meanwhile, other schools are looking.
"NC State, Duke and North Carolina are showing interest," he said. "Georgia is pretty interested and so is Wake Forest. Clemson is showing a bit too."
According to Gates, a few more trips are coming up.
"I plan on visiting NC State, Duke and North Carolina soon. Of course, I'm going to tons of camps this summer also."
Does Gates like anyone?
"I want to be able to play cause I'm a competitor," he stated. "I would like to hear more from some ACC schools or SEC schools, North Carolina, Georgia, NC State, Virginia Tech and Clemson."
Gates earned all-state honors as he helped Davidson Day to a state championship this season.
"I did pretty well," he said. "I think my athletic ability really showed. I can play both sides of the ball. I'm versatile, but primarily a wide receiver. I'm a big, physical wide receiver. I bench 305 and squat 415, so I'm strong. I get out of my cuts and have big, strong hands. I'm still trying to work on all aspects of my game, but I think I'm a tough runner and good in the open field."
