WR Enjoys First Official

Montclair, N.J. wide receiver Derrick Harper took a trip down to South Carolina this weekend. How did he like it?
"I loved it," said the 6-foot-2, 181-pounder. "It was really nice down there. They lost the game to Arkansas, but I could see that they need wideouts and offensive help in a big way."

Harper, who also has family in South Carolina, was hosted by senior defensive end Shaun Smith and met all of the Carolina coaches.
"I got to meet everyone and spoke with Lou Holtz for a while," he said. "He's a really up front guy, I like that. He's also a great motivator. I heard his pre-game speech and it was awesome."
Harper said he thought about commiting, but it's still too early.
"I still have some other visits to take," he said. "I have Pitt next (Dec. 6) and then Maryland (Jan. 3) and Boston College (Jan. 17). Right now South Carolina is the team to beat, but I want to see others to compare."
