WR Chase learns of FSU offer

Class of 2016 receiver T.J. Chase went to this week's Florida State football camp with one goal in mind - earn an offer from the Seminoles. Little he know his goal had already been accomplished before he even stepped foot on the practice facilities.
The Seminoles offered during spring, but Chase, who recently transferred to Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, didn't get the word until he was touring Florida State's facilities following camp.
"(Wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey) was talking to us after the tour and he was asking if Florida State was in the running for me," said Chase, who stands at 6-foot-1, 174 pounds. "I asked him if that meant I was offered and he said I was offered way back in May."
Chase already has more than 20 offers from premier programs including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Ohio State, but it was Florida State that he wanted all along.
"I'm going to consider them big time," Chase said. "But I'm still going to take my visits to schools and just wait, then narrow it down and take my official visits and just go from there. … Pretty much Florida State's the one to beat, but I don't want to commit too early. Maybe my mind could change and I'll want to commit somewhere else. Anything can happen at any time, that's why I want to wait and take my visits to other schools."
Chase doesn't have an official top five at the moment, but his leader is Florida State, with Clemson, Florida and Kentucky standing out though he's yet to visit those schools. He said because of the process involved in transferring to IMG he didn't have an opportunity to visit other schools this offseason.
With the Florida State offer in his back pocket, he said his focus now is on gearing up for his first season with IMG. With the Academy playing its opener against Godby in a highly-anticipated, televised game and with it debuting a national schedule, Chase will be playing in a big spotlight.
He likes the position he's in heading into his junior season.
"It's the real deal here," he said. "With the facilities, coaching, my ability and talent, the sky is the limit, honestly."
