WR catching on with coaches

Cerritos (Calif.) Gahr receiver Shaan Johnson didn't get a ton of opportunities last season to catch a lot of passes. He only had 26 receptions for 477 yards and four touchdowns, but he's done enough to catch the attention from several high quality football programs.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound receiver has received scholarship offers from Kansas State, Utah and Nevada.

"Nevada, Utah and Kansas State have offered me, and I'm getting looked at by a lot of schools," Johnson said. "I'm just trying to find the right one for me.
"The ones that offered me, I talk to them a lot. I talk to the Washington coach, Johnny Nansen, and I talk to the Kansas State coaches. I talk to a lot of coaches."
Washington definitely is a school that has caught his eye, even though the Huskies have yet to offer.
"That's my dream school," he said. "It's a nice school academically, and it's just so nice out there. It's not too far from home. I haven't taken a visit there yet, and I'm looking forward to it. I saw they landed Nick Montana. It would be great to play with him, knowing what his dad did and what he's doing now. He's a good player."
Kansas State, Nevada and Utah are other schools that has really caught his eye.
"Being a receiver, I like the way their team passes the ball at Kansas State," Johnson said. "They pass most of the time. The coaching staff is good, too. Nevada's one of those passing teams too. They pass like 90 percent of the game, and that's what a receiver wants.
"I've been out there to Utah before with my uncle, and it's beautiful out there. The team's good, last year they won the Sugar Bowl when they beat Alabama, and they have good coaches."
Johnson performed well at the Los Angeles NIKE Training Camp and he plans to make a return visit to USC's Rising Star Camp in two weeks.
"Surprisingly, I did very well," he said. "I didn't think I would do very well coming back from the off-season. I went out there, did all I could do, tried my best and I liked it. I want to do more, but I'm not really sure where I'm going. I think I'll be going to the USC Rising Stars one in a couple weeks."
Johnson relishes his under the radar status now, but he hopes to change some people's minds this summer and into the fall.
"Yeah, I'm not one of those guys out there that everybody knows about," he said. "I'm one of those people who's under the radar that coaches are starting to find out about. But it's great to have all these offers already. It feels good to already have offers coming and it not even be my senior year yet. It feels awesome."
