Wooten being pursued, but still solid

Brennen Wooten didn't get much of a holiday break. The talented quarterback from San Angelo (Texas) was out with his teammates at practice early on Monday morning -- Labor Day -- getting ready for the upcoming game. The 6-foot-1 and 185-pound signal-caller says that there is a lot of optimism around this year's team.
"We did have practice on Labor Day morning," Wooten said. "We just finished up. We are 2-0 and things are going good for us this season. Our team is solid and our offense is really solid."

Wooten is a three-star quarterback and despite having a number of division one offers and committed to TCU he really worked this summer to get better. He was trying to make a jump on the field from what he couldn't do as a junior.
"I feel like I can move in the pocket better," Wooten said. "I also feel like my arm is stronger. I am making the throws that I couldn't make last year. I've improved as a pocket passer."
Wooten committed to TCU at the end of July. Since then there has been a couple of schools that have stayed in touch and really tried to get Wooten to take a visit to see their schools. It doesn't sound like that has worked yet.
"A few schools are staying in touch with me trying to get me to take an official visit," Wooten said. "I am solid to TCU. Both Washington and SMU are two of the schools trying to get my to take a visit. I am just trying to take everything day by day."
Wooten says that there are two big reasons why he believes that TCU is the right spot for him and they are both on the coaching staff. The TCU coaches are really the clinching reasons why Wooten isn't considering taking a look around at other schools.
"Coach Gary Patterson is one of the best if not the best head coach in the nation," Wooten said. "He has a great defensive mind. I also have a great relationship with Coach Sonny Cumbie. I feel like I am a good fit for his offense."
The San Angelo team along with Wooten are thinking that this could be their year. Wooten knows that this is a very good team, but there are situations where teams can get ahead of themselves and overlook things week to week. Wooten and his teammates are making a conscious effort to not do that.
"We're definitely thinking state title this year," Wooten said. "We have a great team this year. We have to take the season a week at a time. The season is a process."
