Woods, Eiland lead Houston Lamar

Lamar (Houston) High School has recently produced two NCAA football national champions and a baseball freshman All-American over the past two years.
University of Texas stars Drew Kelson and Brian Orakpo have both been back on campus flashing their rings, while their former quarterback Joe Savery was one of the nation's top freshman pitchers last year.

Who's next in the Lamar lineage?
"There is a quarterback coming up that will be next," Kelson said two years ago. "And that big running back. They can both play."
Kelson was right as quarterback Demetrius Woods and running back Eric Eiland burst onto the HISD scene over the past two seasons.
Woods (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) leads the Redskin offense on the ground and in the air. He threw for 16 touchdowns without an interception during the regular season in 2006, guiding his team to a 10-0 record. Lamar fell to Westfield in the first round, but Woods had a 65-yard highlight reel touchdown run in the loss.
"Even against to Westfield who had several college players, I don't know if there was a better football player on that field than Demetrius," Lamar offensive coordinator Chris Butler said. "He plays with a chip on his shoulder and leads our team that way."
Woods has been invited to Miami's junior day and also favors West Virginia, Florida State, Florida, Texas A&M, TCU and Georgia. Depending on who shows interest will determine his he would change positions.
"After this year I'll know if I'm a major Division I quarterback or not," Woods said. "I know I'm a Division I athlete though. I started really believing in myself as a college prospect during the middle of my sophomore season."
"I had a breakout game against Bellaire, and I hooked up with Brandon LaFell (LSU) several times that game. Ever since then I knew football was my sport."
Eiland (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) will have two sports to choose from. He patrols the outfield for Lamar and is the leading rusher for the Redskins.
"He might be out of position in football," Butler said. "He could fill a couple of holes like linebacker, safety or running back. He has great balance and is a downfield runner. We've heard that he can throw the ball for center to home plate like no one we've had here also."
So who's next after them?
It's a ways off, but safety Kris Ryans (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) and tight end Eric Lair (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) will be the next breed of Redskins.
