Kids get excited about playing in all-star games for a number of reasons, but Marietta (Ga.) Walton four-star tight end Bailey Woods has a different motivation for being pumped about playing in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
"I'm excited because I'm hoping we're going to pass the ball more than we do at my high school," Walton said. A 6-foot-5, 222-pound tight end, Walton will represent the East squad in the Jan. 4 all-star game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "We're lucky to throw the ball just a few times a game, and in All-America games, I know they like to spread it out quite a bit."
Woods, an early Auburn commitment, is ranked as the No. 5 tight end in the nation and the No. 16 player in the state of Georgia. To further emphasize his point, he only had three receptions as a junior and made a living as a dominating blocker. Regardless, he's ecstatic to be part of the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
"I'm excited because it's a new thing," Woods said. "I was really thinking only about getting an invite to play in the North-South Georgia all-star game, but this is great. It was a really nice surprise, and I'm ready to go play a big game on national television."
Woods hopes to show everybody watching the game on ESPNU that he has the goods to be a major college tight end.
"I think they're going to see how aggressive of a blocker I am," Woods said. "I know I can do a lot of good things with the football when given the opportunity, and I hope that I'll get to show everybody that I'm a very good tight end."
Woods is excited about continuing his football career at Auburn.
"It was just home to me," Woods said. "I was looking at a bunch of schools, but nobody compared to Auburn. The program is great. A lot of schools that I looked at were impressive, but Auburn was the most impressive with the academics. The facilities are great, and so is the coaching staff. I'm pumped to be heading there."
