Wonnum picks Gamecocks over Auburn and Tennessee

Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee had Dylan Wonnum on their campus for official visits in January and each school had coaches in to see him earlier this week, but the school that has been trending for quite some time won out for the four-star offensive tackle.

South Carolina held on in what became a closer race at the end than some anticipated.

"It came down to all three of those schools," said Wonnum. "It was not just South Carolina and Auburn, but it was down to those two and Tennessee.

"I sat down with my parents yesterday and went over the pros and cons of each school and made my decision. I made my mind up Friday and then gave the coaches a heads up of my decision that night."

Most that follow recruiting know that there is another Wonnum already playing in Columbia. That never hurt Will Muschamp having that family connection, but it did not really help them either.

The 6-foot-5, 293 pound offensive tackle out of Tucker (Ga.) approached his recruitment with his brother out of the equation, but South Carolina still won out.

"It came down to where I feel I can be developed the most, where I feel most comfortable at the most and the education I could get. Those are the reasons I chose South Carolina."

Wonnum has never been one of many words when it came to his recruitment. He didn't like the spotlight on him, so he is happy to have the recruiting process behind him.

"I have gone back and forth between these schools a lot," said Wonnum. "I would go back and forth after each visit, so to be done and committed feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest.

"I am relieved to have my decision made."
