WMU lands three-star back

Western Michigan pulled together the MAC's best-ever recruiting class in 2014, and they have continued that momentum in 2015 by landing their fifth three-star prospect in this class.
Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central running back James Gilbert is the latest to join the Broncos commitment list, placing the call Tuesday evening.

"I called Coach [Mike] Hart and Coach [P.J.] Fleck, the head coach," Gilbert said. "When I talked to Coach Hart I said, 'I'm ready to get in the boat and row it,' and he was going crazy over the phone. I called Coach Fleck and he was fired up too."
Gilbert made a visit to Western Michigan last month, and had been considering the decision since.
"I was thinking about it a lot, so I made up my mind," Gilbert said. "I decided to join the family because I felt I had a good relationship with the coaches. I really like Coach Hart. He tells you the truth. The first thing he told me when I saw him was that this is a business."
Gilbert plans to make a return visit to the campus on May 31. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound back is the first running back commitment in the 2015 class for Western Michigan.
"They said I could really help them out in the run game," Gilbert said. "They need one guy in the 2015 class at running back and they felt I would be a great fit."
Gilbert held five other offers from Akron, Ball State, Cincinnati, Temple and Toledo, but is relieved to have his recruitment behind him.
"I feel like I've got a lot off my shoulders," Gilbert said. "I can come into the season and not worry about where I am going, so I feel a lot better now."
